BAXI Manresa was unable to add its second victory in the first phase of the Basketball Champions League, as it fell on the difficult court of the Italian Bertram Derthona Basket (102-85). Bages paid dearly for a bad start and were always trailing behind a team that was very accurate from the three-point line.
The locals started the match with great strength and accuracy and, led by Strautins and Vital, they nailed an initial run of 14-0. Immediately after, the visitors reacted through Cate and Dani Pérez, but they were unable to close the gap against a very inspired rival (30-16 at the end of the first quarter).
In the second quarter, the tone did not change too much, with the Italians continuing to dominate and who managed to enjoy a 24-point lead. Later, the Manresans were able to score nine consecutive points to get within seventeen points at half-time of the match (55-38).
Coming back from the locker room, Bages improved offensively, but that was not enough to stop a rival that managed to win by 27 points (73-46). At the end of the third quarter, Derthona had the match completely on track (80-58).
In the last ten minutes the visitors did not stop fighting and, led by Obasohan who was facing his former team, they were able to reduce the difference to the final seventeen points (102-85).
On Sunday from 12:30, BAXI Manresa will play a new Catalan derby, this time on the Hiopos Lleida court.
