BAXI Manresa was proclaimed champion of the Ciutat de Maó tournament after beating Gran Canaria in the grand final (86-66). The Bages team, in pre-season and without some players on their 'roster', took the initiative from the beginning and did not suffer to obtain the third victory in the third pre-season game.
Pedro Martínez's players made a great start to the match and nailed an initial run of 12-0, which forced the Canary team to call a timeout. Afterwards, Gran Canaria started to score, but the dominance remained with the reds, who closed the first quarter with nine points in the electronic game (20-11).
In the second, the islanders reacted with a 0-7 to be only four points behind. However, the Manresa team did not get nervous and showed a physical superiority under the baskets. This allowed them to open a hole again and reach the break with a clear 43-27 thanks to a two plus one from Olumuyiwa on the horn.
In the second half, the tone did not change too much, and the Bages team continued to command comfortably on the scoreboard against a rival who, led by Inglis, could not get close. At the end of the third quarter, a three-pointer by Dani Garcia and the duel well on track for the Manresa side (62-47).
There wasn't much of a story in the last ten minutes. They mainly served to keep the players rolling, as the final triumph was never in danger.
BAXI Manresa's next engagement will be on Wednesday at 19:45, in the team's presentation match in front of its fans at Nou Congost. The rival will be an entity, as Partizan, coached by Zeljko Obradovic, will play in the Euroleague this season.
